Winter Carnival

Last Saturday the 1st of December, YAFA threw a Winter Carnival gathering for all its members to celebrate the end of mid-terms and more importantly to have some fun in the spirit of winter. At the event, we played many games and had some challenging competitions, such as Pictionary and the tangling game. There was Christmas Punch (Slovak style) made on the spot and a lot of food and snacks for people to munch on between games. Because this was the first open gathering of YAFA this year, the YAFA organisers introduced the projects YAFA has and the activities it is planning to do. At the end of the day, the winners of the games and the group who won most often in the game of "beat the organisers" were awarded with special YAFA gifts

This winning group was awarded with specially made YAFA bags

For those interested in making the YAFA (Slovak Traditional) Christmas punch, here is the recipe (for 2-5 friends)

Ingredients

  • Apple

  • Orange

  • Black tea

  • Orange Juice

  • Sugar

  • Cinnamon stick

  • 2-5 dried cloves

  • coconut powder

  • honey

Dip the top of the glasses into honey and then into coconut powder.

Cut an apple and an orange into small peaces and put a few of them in each glass. Pour orange juice into about 1/5th of each glass. Put black tea, a cinnamon stick, dried cloves, sugar and fruit into a kettle and add hot water. Wait for 10 minutes, then pour it into the prepared glasses. ( Fruit should be added to both the kettle and the glasses, but I do not recommend you to eat the fruit in the kettle- it just gives the tea a better taste).

A big thank you to all the members who came, it was an truly an honour to celebrate this Winter Carnival with all our YAFA friends and we look forward to seeing you again at our next event!
